LEARNING WITHOUT LIMITS AT PBIS

AGES 2 – 5

EARLY YEARS

Your child’s first years at PBIS will be exactly what they should be: happy, stimulating and secure. Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum provides a broad and balanced learning experience, preparing your child for the next stage of their education.

Our nurturing, thoughtful approach supports each child to learn and develop at their own pace, through play and in response to their interests. We carefully monitor and assess each child’s progress and needs, guiding their development across the seven key areas of learning: Communication and Language; Physical Development; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World; and Expressive Arts and Design.

Our Early Years teachers regularly extend children’s learning, helping them grow in important areas such as mathematics, phonics and writing. Your child will also enjoy sessions with trained librarians and other curriculum specialists.

We believe that children flourish when they explore, create, discover and engage in hands-on learning. By using our outdoor spaces as additional classrooms, we give your child the opportunity to explore their interests both indoors and outdoors.

AGES 5 – 11

PRIMARY

In Primary, we combine the best elements of the English National Curriculum (ENC) and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) to provide an ambitious, well-rounded learning programme. Your child’s wellbeing always comes first, which is why we place a strong emphasis on Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic (PSHCE) education.

Whether your child is a beginner or an advanced English speaker, we provide language instruction tailored to their current level and future needs. We support English language development across all year groups, with differentiated groups for beginners and advanced learners. This allows us to stretch and challenge students in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

By combining the rigorous objectives of the ENC in English and Mathematics with the inquiry-based, creative approach of the IPC, we help students become informed, globally minded and future-ready learners.

Through our Creative Curriculum, students benefit from a cross-curricular approach to learning, exploring subjects such as History, Geography, Science, STEAM, Performing Arts and Computing.

AGES 11 – 14

LOWER SECONDARY

As your child begins their Secondary education, they will follow our Lower Secondary Curriculum (LSC). This comprehensive programme supports students’ emotional, social and academic development, while building the knowledge, skills and understanding they need for the more demanding studies of IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme.

The Lower Secondary Curriculum develops core learning competencies such as research and inquiry, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and self-management. These competencies provide a foundation for lifelong learning and help students transfer their skills across different subjects and disciplines.

Students study a broad range of academic subjects, including Mathematics, English Language and Literature, Integrated Sciences, Visual Arts, Design, Individuals and Societies, Performing Arts, and Language Acquisition, including French, German, Spanish and English as an Additional Language.

Learning is complemented by a strong focus on PSHCE, service and leadership opportunities. Together, these experiences help students develop vital future skills such as adaptability, resilience and collaboration.

Cross-curricular activities, project days, and a wide range of enrichment clubs and societies are also built into the school day at this stage of learning.

AGES 14 – 16

INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is one of the world’s leading international qualifications for students aged 14 to 16. It is recognised by universities and employers around the world.

The IGCSE is an exam-based programme assessed by Cambridge International Education. Students take eight IGCSE subjects and can tailor their choices to their future educational goals, creating a strong progression from Lower Secondary to the IB Diploma Programme.

Alongside core subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science, students can choose from a wide range of electives, including Academic PE, Art and Design, Business Studies, Economics, Global Perspectives, Drama, Music, Computer Science, German, Spanish, French, History, Geography and English as an Additional Language.

By promoting academic, social and personal development, the programme prepares students for the rigorous demands of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

AGES 16 – 19

IB DIPLOMA

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is one of the world’s most respected pre-university qualifications and is recognised by leading universities around the world.

This two-year programme for students aged 16 to 19 is known for its academic depth, breadth and challenge. It provides excellent preparation for university and other future pathways.

IBDP students choose subjects from six groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and The Arts. Students may also choose an additional subject from Sciences, Individuals and Societies, or Languages instead of an Arts subject.

An essential part of the programme is the IBDP core, which consists of three components: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay (EE).

Our wide range of IBDP subjects allows students to tailor their studies to their interests, strengths and career aspirations. Students learn in small classes and receive personalised academic support, alongside university counselling, to help them access excellent future opportunities.

CZECH BRITISH PRIMARY SCHOOL PROGRAMME

Taught by bilingual teachers, our Czech British Primary School programme (Česko Britská Základní Škola) combines the best of Czech and international education. Students follow the Czech National Curriculum alongside the International Primary Curriculum, learning in both Czech and English.

Designed primarily for Czech students, the programme helps children master core subjects and languages while enjoying a broad range of opportunities that nurture their talents, interests and personal development. It also prepares them for the next stage of their education at PBIS.

In our small classes, teachers tailor each child’s learning experience to their needs, interests and educational goals. English is taught every day through our English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme.

Alongside outstanding teaching in the core subjects, music, languages and PE are an important part of the curriculum. We prioritise personal development, celebrating each child’s unique talents, strengths and interests, while supporting them to become confident, responsible and independent young people.

We also care deeply about our students’ wellbeing. During morning circle time, for example, children can talk about how they are feeling, raise any concerns and share their hopes for the day.

We also run an after-school club for non-Czech students who want to learn the language.

HISTORY

PBIS has a long and distinguished history dating back more than 30 years. In 2018, the merger of Prague British School and the English International School of Prague brought together two schools with strong academic records and thriving communities, forming the PBIS we know today.

We are now the largest international school community in the Czech Republic, with three thriving campuses in Prague. Vlastina is located in the west of the city, while Kamýk and Libuš are just five minutes apart in the south-east.

Across our campuses, students benefit from some of the best sports, performing arts and teaching facilities in the city. These inspiring spaces allow our exceptional teachers to deliver world-class learning, both during and beyond the school day.
